It took all day but my dream finally came true.

Last weekend as we were in the toy section in Meijer’s Amy turned to me as I stared loving at the Legos and she said “I want to get you something for doing so well on your final” I briefly agonized over the money we would be spending, but in the end I willing gave in. Of course I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to get some new Legos… and, the boys could play with them too… right?

Instead of buying the Lego set, “The Battle of Endor”, right then and there, I told Amy that I had seen it cheaper at Target. Yes, I was already looking at it… I’m a dork. So off we went to look for it at a cheaper price, but first we would stop at Toys R’ Us to see if they had the Lego set and try to take advantage of a coupon that Amy had. No luck, even though their website said they had it in stock. Then we headed to Target and again we struck out. By this point I was exhausted and defeated. Christ, it had already been three hours since we started on our journey to find this Lego set for a cheaper price. Stupid me, we should have just gotten it at Meijer’s when we were there earlier. As we headed home Amy turned to me again and said she was going to head to Meijer’s after the kids went to bed to pick it up. When she returned an hour later she had it. I was so excited! I rushed upstairs to show Marley and Brodie. Of course they were as excited as I was. I left it in their room so they could look at it as they fell asleep. I bet I know that they dreamed about that night.

The next morning the boys, especially Marley, were quite eager to put the set together. So for the next seven hours, yes seven hours, we put this set together and at the end we had the battle of Endor. I have to say that this was a great buy. I love and the boys love it and this is all thanks to my awesome wife Amy.

Sunsets come too fast.

It seems that as I get older sunsets come faster and faster (especially the weekend sunsets). Thankfully Amy and I take enough pictures to document the many sunsets of our lives. While there wasn’t anything particularly special about this day, I glad that I have this shot to remember this moment.

Brettie at Target!!!

Bumped into my buddy Brett at Target today. This should have never happened. Trust me, Brett just isn’t the type of guy that shops at Target.

As many people get ready to bring in the new year, we spent the day celebrating something very special to us, Marley’s 5th birthday. It has been a very fast 5 years and I just can’t believe that my first is already 5. I need life to slow down a bit, even though I know that isn’t possible. I guess the best that I can do is capture as many moments in the next 5 years so I can sit back 5 years and have a means to remember as much about those 5 years as possible. Happy birthday big guy.

This is my middle son Brodie. By far our most energetic, crazy, sarcastic, constantly on a roller coaster of emotions, rule breaking of the three. As you can see from this photo, taken during his and Marley’s preschool holiday performance, Brodie is hamming it up, and, of course, not following the teacher, which you can see (Brodie looking at Amy and me, while the other kids look at their teacher). This kid is so me.

Blackberry

Yesterday, while Amy took Marley and Cale out to get a Christmas present for Brodie, Brodie and I spent the time cleaning up my home office. I’m very lucky to have my own room in the house that is dedicated only to me. But, if you know me, any area that is solely mine, and solely my responsibility to clean, usually turns into a disaster area. Seriously, I should have taken a picture of my office as I can’t explain the hell that I created, but it was probably better that I didn’t, as it would have been a waste of time (and I needed all the time to clean) since I would have probably been too embarrassed to show it.

Why did I clean it? Two reasons… First, my parents are coming in next week and there is no way that I was going to allow them to see this mess. Also, my Dad likes to use my computer in my office to surf the web and check his email. Now he can be a messy guy too (probably where I get it from), so I’m sure that it wouldn’t bother him too much, but I just couldn’t bear to have him crammed in there with all my crap while he checks stocks, news and emails. Second reason, starting next year I plan on telecommuting once a week (hopefully Friday’s) and for that to work, I will need a clean and dedicated area that will allow me to be as productive as I would be in the work office. I really want this telecommuting to work as I see it as a “win win” for me and the company I work for. It will also save me two hours commuting, and most importantly, it will allow me to start the weekend sooner, so I can spend more time with Amy and the boys .

So why a picture of my Blackberry. First, I love my Blackberry. Yes, I’m addicted to it but only for most of the day. I usually only check it a few times when I get home from work, but at work it is always in my hand and constantly vibrating. But the real reason that I love my Blackberry is that it will allow me to work from home. Yes, I have a laptop that allows me to access all my work files and programs through a VPN, but I can’t take the laptop with me wherever I go when I’m not in the home office, so that is where the Blackberry comes into play. Now I feel that I can be contacted immediately in an emergency with out having to give out my home number, and that simple fact gives me the security to know that my lack of presence at the office won’t impact my department.

So my little Blackberry, thank you for giving me the opportunity to improve my quality of life. This photo is dedicated to you.
